Century of Shoes | 22" x 32" | monks cloth -
$35.00 | linen - $48.00
This was another fun rug, that I'd like to do again, but more
creatively. I used swatches for minimal shading and
"mocha" frosting" for the background. That way the whites and
blacks would show up. When I taught it to some very clever
people, they hooked in roving, yarn, plastic bags; all kinds of
things. They've also sewn on leopard skin and buttons and
shoe laces. Definitely out of the box thinkers.
Jan Misererdino's shoe rug is shown above; great colours
Jan!

Rose of Sharon | 15" square | monkscloth - $11.50
| linen - $16.00
This little pattern has a big story! At rug camps, teachers
are often asked to present "mini classes" of something for anyone
at the camp to take. A few years ago, I decided
this pattern would be a good option. As I don't like kits, I
decided to present 4 different colourways; but I didn't have
the time to hook all 4. So I decided to "halve" them.
The gold kit is shown at the top left; a student made it into a
pillow.
Off to the right is the mat of the 4 colourways that I did.
This is typical of how I like to hook what might otherwise be a
big, blobby fried egg flower. To my surprise. . the kits were
an instant hit at every mini class i took them to!
Nancy Thompson was one of the many hookers who enjoyed the
kit. In fact, she told me, she enjoyed it so much that she
wanted to make a whole rug of 9 blocks of the Rose of Sharon.
And, again to my surprise, she wanted it just like my sample piece,
with all 4 colour plans. So, i created it for her
and she worked on it at Caraway camp in my class, 2006.
Nancy did it on a 6 cut, just as mine is, so you can get extra
"detail" in. She finished it in no time, and here it is (the
bottom piece) at Caraway 07, where it was a huge smash! It's
a wonderful rug! Others have asked me for this design in rug
form, so if you are one who would like it that way, contact me and
let me know how many blocks you'd like!

Connies Quilt Scraps | 21" x 31" | monkscloth -
$27.00 | linen - $37.00
Connie Pratt like the border of "spring cleaning" so much she asked
for it to be put into a small piece with a plain
middle. She and many others have hooked it in various colour
plans, using both new and leftover wools. Here is Alice
Lizak's pretty version.

Angels | 18" x 39" | monkscloth - $35.00 | linen -
$48.00
Lisa Lamothe hooked this very simple, sweet piece.

Country Hearts | 17" x 28" | monkscloth - $21.00 |
linen - $29.00
A cute little rug which we've also used for weddings,
anniversaries. It can be new looking and cheery, or antiquey with
softer colours.

Applehearts | 13" x 36" | monkscloth - $27.00 |
linen - $37.00
Jenny Bugbee chose patriotic colours for her version (the one on
the right)! Barbara Rossman chose to do her applehearts as I did. .
.using a textured neutral to symbolize a basket (on the
left).

"As American As" and "Pie on the
4th"
10" x 20" | monkscloth - $19.00 | linen - $25.00
15" x 30" | monkscloth - $27.00 | linen - $37.00
Some years ago, I was in a patriotic mood on July 4th, and designed
a few pieces. After 9-11, these became a hot item, along with
"home of the brave". They each come in 2
sizes.

"God Bless America" Barn
10" x 20" | monkscloth - $21.00 | linen -
$29.00
15" x 30" | monkscloth - $31.00 | linen - $43.00
I was inspired to design this when I drove by a barn that had our
flag painted on it. My weathered version of "God bless America"
barn is on the left.

Top
Beacon Antique, beautifully done in antique style by Robyn
Sasso.
Beacon Antique | 32" x 48" |
monkscloth - $53.00 | linen - $74.00
When I first bought New Earth Designs, I saw this pattern and had
the urge to hook it in non-traditional colours, for a somewhat
lighter look. But it also is beautiful done up old and
dingy.
It's
always a pleasure to have Shirley Dillard in class. . .in '06 at
Caraway camp, we started the "Beacon Antique" below.
Beautiful!

The
bottom one is a really nice Brookfield Antique, hooked by Joanne
Montgomery. I like the golds.
Brookfield Antique | 24" x 60" |
monkscloth - $69.00 | linen - $96.00
Everyone loves this long thin rug...it's great for those narrow
areas, like in between beds. Use up scraps in the flowers and
leaves!

Century Antique | 19" x 36" | monkscloth - $35.00
| linen - $48.00
I LOVED doing this Year 2000 rug, with all its antiquey colours and
little rectangles. Each one only took about 50 minutes to
hook! The colours are easily moved around the rug and so it's
perfect for leftover usage. I'd love to hook it again
sometime.

Keepsake Antique | 15" x 21" | monkscloth - $21.00
| linen - $29.00
This little rug is lots of fun because each side has a different
border. It's quickly and easily completed using odds
and ends of small pieces.

The
Church Supper on the left was capably hooked by Tommy Bradford. The
one to the right came from Freda MacDonnell. Both ladies are dear
friends and longtime hooking companions.
Church Supper | 29" x 42" |
monkscloth - $48.00 | linen - $67.00
This is summer, in the series of quilt bordered seasonal
rugs. It commemorates the church suppers I grew up working
on. The heart shapes in the border are filled with faded
looking wools; they represent womens worn dresses.

Rose Oval | 22" x 36" | monkscloth - $31.00 |
linen - $43.00
One of my favourite backgrounds is Potato Skins, and here I used it
"solid" and mixed with 2 different textures dyed with my Potato
Skin formula. Together, hooked randomly. . they make a great
background! The detail and scrolls are hooked in the fashion
of the old rugs, mixing a little of this, and a little of
that.

Daisy Wide Cut | 18" x 27" | monks cloth - $27.00
| linen - $37.00
This versatile rug can be done either wide cut shaded with
swatches, or wide cut outline and fill style. I love the colours in
both of these very different versions.

Cat Hair | 27" x 41" | monkscloth - $48.00 | linen
- $67.00
I'm sorry that I misplaced the name of the wonderful hooker who
sent me this photo. .I think the background treatment is
fabulous and that red hair is "wow"!

The
Cottage Garden on the right is off to a beautiful start, hooked by
Victoria Ingalls at a recent workshop.
Cottage Garden | 16" x 20" |
monkscloth - $31.00 | linen - $43.00
This charming little rug was inspired by the old cast iron door
stops from the 30's. The French Blue background enhances this
feel. I've had students at 5 day camps go home with it
completed. Again, you can use odds and ends and it's fun to
pull in variegated yarn for the flower beds too, as Victoria
Ingalls did last fall on hers (on the left)!

Farmer Benj | 26" x 35" | monkscloth - $35.00 |
linen - $48.00
One of my early designs, a tribute to my husband, who has worked
the land and worked with farm animals since he was 10. Another good
scrap rug, and one that children enjoy.

Potting Shed | 20" x 30" | monkscloth - $31.00 |
linen - $43.00
I enjoyed designing this one, quite a few years ago now, and
hooking the peeling paint! It makes a nice wall
hanging.

Home of the Brave
10" x 20" | monkscloth - $19.00 | linen - $25.00
15" x 30" | monkscloth - $27.00 | linen - $37.00
Nice done in folky colours. You can also use
leftovers on the smaller one. Lorraine Joseph was a wonderful
hooker and was in my class many times over the years at Rock River
and Castle in the Clouds. On the top is her "home of the
brave", made for a bench seat.

On
top is a very nicely done one. The cookies look
delicious!
Grandma's Kitchen | 22" x 28" |
monkscloth - $27.00 | linen - $37.00
I utilized my mothers antique cookie cutters for the border on this
easy kitchen rug. Looks nice on the wall too!

Laundry Line | 10" x 24" | monkscloth - $19.00 |
linen - $25.00
The bottom one is a sweet piece that was hooked by Beth
Morris. Love the colours!

Women's World | 24" x 32" | monkscloth - $35.00 |
linen - $48.00
This design pays tribute to the interests and jobs that women
have. There are 2 spaces left blank for personal
contributions of your own, and some people alter a few of the
others to suit them as well. The center quote is from a
favourite Dylan song; it seemed to fit this rug nicely.

Primitive Flower Garden | 21½" x 36" | monkscloth
- $35.00 | linen - $48.00
My challenge for this rug was to use very faded and barely-there
colours. To create background interest, I added a few areas
of a lighter value in some areas. This pattern is meant
to be hooked balanced by colour, not by flower positioning, because
it won't work as well!

Robyn
Sasso did this delightful rug! Everyone likes the red
background.
Crows and Nasturtiums | 19" x 42" |
monks cloth - $41.00 | linen - $56.00
This rug was a "best seller" from it's debut a couple of years
back. I loved hooking it, especially the combination of
"penuche fudge" background and "crow feathers" for the
birds. The unusual shape makes it more interesting
too!

Willow Farm | 31" x 31" | monkscloth - $41.00 |
linen - $56.00
This makes an attractive folk art wall hanging.

Ann's Moose | 24½" x 42" | monks cloth - $41.00 |
linen - $56.00
This rug was designed for Ann Tuttle as a reminder of the time when
she had a moose family destructively living in their
orchard.

Migdalia's Wedding Rug | 16" x 34" | monkscloth -
$24.00 | linen - $33.00
Although this was designed as a wedding rug (to be stood on
by the couple during the ceremony) it also makes a good
anniversary rug as well, as done by Ann Tuttle for
friends.

Mini Bags | 8" x 9" | linen - $14.00 each
These little bags can be completed in an evenings worth of work.
They are great for utilizing not only leftovers of wool, but
remnant fabrics as well, for the lining and backing. Each
comes with a photo and finishing directions, including paper
patterns for backing/lining; as worked out by a professional
seamstress.

Stitch in Time | 11" x 14" | monkscloth - $11.50 |
linen - $16.00
A nice gift for a friend who enjoys sewing, and easily completed!
You can add interest by adding hooked "running stitches" and by
sewing on real buttons over the hooked ones. The hanger makes for a
nice finish.

Mom | 13" x 40½" | monkscloth - $31.00 | linen -
$43.00
My mom lived with us for nearly 3 years and it wasn't easy for her
or us. I got rid of some of my frustration by designing this
sweet appearing Victorian rug with the kicker saying in the
middle. I used "old prom dress" for the inner background and
"cranberry bog" for the outer. the roses were just odd bits
of textures and solids. . .. whatever, wherever. . .somehow it
works!

Under the Weeping Cherry | 18" x 32" | monkscloth
- $27.00 | linen - $37.00
I've always preferred droopy trees to upright ones, so I
incorporated the top tree branch into the rug edge.
Faded jeans makes a perfect sky, and the rest is all odds and
ends.

All in a Row | 30" x 55" | monkscloth - $69.00 |
linen - $96.00
"Plant your seeds all in a row, one for the birds and one to grow".
.. goes the saying around this runner. The background here is
"Maryjane's garden dirt". The very bright veggie
colours (mostly spot dyes) make it cheerful.

Woolen Sign | 6" x 26" or Primitive
Sign | 6" x 25"
monkscloth $19.00 | linen - $25.00
Hook one of these for your studio, shop, or wool area!

The
bottom one is a beautifully crafted Welcome rug with wonderful
colouration!
Welcome | 27" x 42" | monkscloth -
$41.00 | linen - $56.00
This pattern, with it's pomegranate-border, can be either hooked in
primitive or modern style, depending on colour choices.

This and That | 20" x 36" | monkscloth - $35.00 |
linen - $48.00
This little rug is one of my favourites for leftover usage.
You can alter a motif on your purchased pattern if one or more
doesn't suit you. We've done this rug, and it's Christmas
companion rug, many many times, always with scraps.
This one happens to have blue predominant, but you can use whatever
you have!
